My massage journey commenced in 2007 when I undertook a Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice. From these studies, and having explored the history of natural medicine back in 2003, I felt compelled to pursue my interest of a more holistic approach to healthcare by completing a Diploma of Polarity Therapy.
Polarity therapy completely changed my life and the way I perceive my daily existence. I began to identify root causes of the manifestations of physical ailments in both my own and others people’s bodies. I began to understand just how much our mental, emotional and spiritual states contribute to energetic blocks (i.e. aches and pains) in the physical body. Another component that I found of great importance was identifying the energetic properties of the foods I was consuming, and how an excess or deficiency of a particular element may affect my ‘balance’ overall.
Following the Diploma I went on to complete additional electives in Bowen therapy; a gentler technique that treats the fascia (connective tissue) of our body. I realised just how important it was to unblock the ‘shrink wrap’ like tissues that allow our bodies to remain in particular holding patterns. I thought to myself – “what is the point of all this muscle massaging if the surrounding tissues will not budge and keep the muscles in a particular position?!”
Whilst working full time in a professional role tackling the issue of gambling addiction, I decided it was time to pursue my chosen path – returning to my studies to complete my Diploma of Remedial Massage.
Around this time I became aware of some magical remedies created from the vibrational essence of flowers, so signed up for the semester long training with Endeavour College of Natural Medicine.
I instantly fell in love with the Australian Bush Flower Essences range, and began to intuitively prescribe blends to clients after working ‘hands on’ with them. I found that my clients’ bodies would ‘speak’ to me and tell me what essences they needed. I still use these daily and am still astounded by how deeply they can facilitate change, and support during times of upheaval. And they are just wonderful supports for children.
In 2010, after undertaking a Vipassana meditation in the Blue Mountains, NSW, I received a Kahuna Bodywork treatment and knew that I absolutely must train in this modality. I completed my Certificate IV in Kahuna Bodywork in 2012 in this dynamic and transformational form of bodywork. And travelled to Hawaii in 2013 for my college’s inaugural workshop.
In 2012 I engaged in some Transpersonal Art Therapy modules, and 2013 and 2014 saw me undertake all of the modules for the Advanced Diploma of Transpersonal Counselling. These modules provided me with additional tools and allowed me to gain a deeper confidence in being able to ask the questions which ultimately arise during bodywork, and the techniques for exploring these.
2014 was also the year I journeyed through conception and a medically unassisted pregnancy, greeting my beautiful daughter after a planned unassisted freebirth into water at home in Febuary 2015.
After 5 years immersed in the Fleurieu Peninsula it was time to return to my birth place, the Adelaide Hills.
I am so excited to share all that I have to offer with the local community from near and far. And expanding out into sharing yoga with children in 2019, when I will complete my Kids Yoga Teacher certification.
With love, Carly Flinn
